MEET CAPTAIN SCOTT
The Dennis Family has been hunting the Delacroix Marsh since it was first divided and sold as trapping land in the Early 1930’s. Captain Scott Dennis was very fortunate to grow up and learn to hunt ducks at an early age from a family of duck hunting men. “My earliest memories of hunting ducks were with my father and his uncles who always took the time to explain why and how we were going to set up that morning”. These men were hunters who hunted as a way of life, to put food on the table, and when it was legal sold their bag of ducks to the market in New Orleans. “I remember their stories of when times were hard and shells were too expensive to waste shooting to kill only one duck with a shot”. There was a reason for the method and techniques these Old-Timers used and Captain Scott still uses these traditional approaches to increase his client’s chances during the hunts.
He has been hunting this area for 48 years and providing successful guided hunts for over 35 years.
In May of 2025, Captain Scott retired from his life long career as a Teacher of students with Special Needs. He also Coached multiple sports during his 33 years in Education. His experience as an educator is very obvious when you are hunting with him. His patience with new and less experienced hunters and the knowledge he will share throughout the day make him the perfect Hunting Guide. Whether you are a first time hunter or an experienced outdoorsman, sharing a Duck Blind with Captain Scott will be like Hunting with Family.
The Hunt
Experience the incredible beauty of the Delacroix Marsh as you pursue world-class waterfowl and Louisiana alligators in one of the most productive wetland habitats in North America — just 30 miles from Downtown New Orleans. These coastal marshes are abundant in wildlife and offer two distinct hunting seasons that showcase the very best of Southeast Louisiana. Whether you are watching a sunrise flight of ducks settle into the decoys or scanning the still water for the movement of a mature alligator, every trip places you in the heart of authentic Louisiana marsh country.
You and your group will arrive at the Dennis Dock at the scheduled time the morning of your hunt. After a brief overview of the day’s plan, you will board Captain Scott’s boat and travel to the area he feels will be best based on weather conditions, water levels, wind direction, and daily scouting throughout the season. His approach is always methodical and intentional, ensuring each hunt is positioned for success.
During duck season, Captain Scott will carefully set the decoys and position the boat-blind to provide the best shooting angles for the given wind. After reviewing shooting lanes and safety guidelines, he will identify the approaching birds, call them into the spread, and tell you when to “Get-’em.” The species you may encounter include Blue-wing Teal, Green-wing Teal, Gadwall, Pintail, Mallards, Wigeon, Redheads, Scaup, and many others that migrate through the Mississippi Flyway each season.
During alligator season, the focus shifts from the sky to the water. Captain Scott will run lines and search for active gators, positioning the boat carefully when the opportunity presents itself. He will guide you step-by-step through the process, providing clear instruction and ensuring a safe, controlled harvest. His knowledge of the marsh and alligator behavior gives you the best opportunity for a successful and memorable hunt.
Whether you join us for ducks in the fall or alligators in season, you are not simply booking a hunt — you are experiencing the Delacroix Marsh the way it was meant to be seen. Guided by experience, shaped by daily scouting, and rooted in respect for the resource, every trip reflects the heritage and tradition of coastal Louisiana.
